Imagine: just now, 17,000 children are waiting for their dream of a family and parents to come true. And almost 13,000 of these kids live in family-type orphanages. And then somewhat disappointing statistics – after all, only 20% of these children can boast of good health.
We won’t surprise anyone if we recall that only 5 children with HIV last year found a family in Ukraine, and another 9 children were adopted by foreigners. Among the kids with disabilities, only 21 children found new mum and dad in Ukraine and 102 lucky ones went to new families abroad.
Our team visited the Department of Child Protection and the Adoption of the Ministry of Social Policy to talk about these important figures and the future that can be changed. And what’s in the end? We are expecting great good deeds, because wise men from the Ministry signed a memorandum of cooperation with Small Heart with Art. And we already:
- Work on a helpful tip for parents who want to adopt children. In this document, we will talk about a baby’s medical examination calendar, contacts of institutions that can help a new family and, most importantly, advice on how to talk with children about adoption.
- Create materials that prove and once again remind us of antiviral therapy, which is extremely necessary for children with HIV.
- Prepare a campaign to break stereotypes and myths about adoption – children need to have a home and a family.
We are happy to do this together with the state and we are glad for the volunteers who are ready to help us in turning children’s dreams of family in real life. If you feel the power to change this world, contact us!
