«We can’t imagine a better end of the year. The main thing we continue to do is provide the best educational opportunities for children.
A class has been opened in Kharkiv today and, as you can see, there are the best opportunities for teaching little superheroes.
Recently, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the public institution “Superheroes School” and it has been presented at the Ministry of Education and Science. As long as the bureaucratic process goes on, we do not stop the mission of the organization – it will not end until every child has access to quality education».
With this emotional quote by the founder of the Superheroes School Evgenia Smirnova, we hereby begin a virtual journey into the history of the opening of the School in Kharkiv.
In August 2021, together with our project’s ‘godmother’ Natalia Moseychuk, the curator of the Right to Education project and the TV presenter of 1+1 TV channel, we had a conversation with Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov about organizing the Superheroes School.
During our trip to Kharkiv, we visited several hospitals in the city. The City Clinical Children’s Hospital № 16 was chosen as a site for the future School of Superheroes, as the institution treats children with oncohematological pathology. Thus children stay in the hospital for a long time and do not have the opportunity to receive a quality education in time.
Thanks to the support of the Kharkiv mayor, funds were promptly allocated for the reorganization and renovation of the hall on the second floor of the hospital. Also, a thorough overhaul of the classroom was carried out.
Among public figures and volunteers who took part in equipping the classroom of the “Superheroes School” are:
– Oksana Slipchenko, Said Javid and Artur Statsenko helped to buy Kraft Boxing – a wooden map of the world with LED lighting;
– Andrey Litvinov allocated funds to purchase school furniture;
– Rotary Club “Kharkiv Nadiya”, Kharkiv branch of “PRYVATBANK” and Kharkiv Specialized School № 119 helped to buy tablets for students of the “Superheroes School”;
– Textbooks and workbooks were provided by the Ranok Publishing House;
– Andriy Tabachyn, the founder of EdPro, presented the School with an interactive touch panel;
– Olena Romanova from “AlurDesign” created a visualization of the School;
– Schneider Electric and Cooper & Hunter provided electrical equipment and air conditioners, respectively.
The opening of the Superheroes School in Kharkiv was attended by everyone involved in the event from the Kharkiv City Council, hospital administration, public figures and volunteers.
It took four months of preparation and thorough work to provide the basics – a fulfilling and promising life for children who are struggling for their health in hospitals for long periods of time.
Enabling children to live their childhood to the fullest: going to school, learning new things, communicating with classmates and teachers, getting support, acceptance and encouragement – these are the reasons why we work with you, our friends and partners, to create Superheroes Schools in hospitals.
