Unfortunately, the focus of helping and supporting children in hospitals by the Superheroes School team has had to expand and shift over the last month.
The superheroes, who used to receive scheduled long-term treatment in peacetime, were evacuated to safer regions and abroad with the start of the war.
Today, hospitals are filled with children who have been seriously injured, lost limbs, and are in a troubling psycho-emotional state. These children have spent many days in cold basements and destroyed houses. They have seen destroyed roads, mutilated streets, and burned cars. They saw wounded and killed people. And some of the children had to go through the worst – to see with their own eyes the death of their parents, brothers and sisters, or other family members.
Our team has launched a training program for Ukrainian psychologists who work with children who have witnessed the war.
The program is made up of three pillars for each little patient:
- full psychological support up until the moment when children are able to cope with their mental condition on their own;
- individual meetings with a specialist twice a week;
- monthly supervision with family or guardians to provide practical advice on how to support the psychological rehabilitation of the child.
We wholeheartedly count on support from the international community to realize the program.
