Opening of the Superheroes School at Kyiv Regional Children’s Hospital in Boiarka

10.10.23

On the 5th of September, the newly created educational space of the state institution «Superheroes School» opened its doors at Kyiv Regional Children’s Hospital in the city of Boiarka

To ensure that the small superheroes could study comfortably, the international law firm Dentons provided financial support. It was thanks to them that the renovation was carried out and two classrooms of the Superheroes School in Boiarka were equipped – the visualisation of which was created by the talented and creative design bureau DVOETOCHIE and design studio Ionosfera. Our longstanding partners and friends also joined in the creation of this centre: the U.S.A. Embassy in Ukraine, EdPro LLC, Sirius security service, and Modnashtora salon.

«At last the celebration has arrived – the opening of the Superheroes School educational centre. Our team and the superheroes had been waiting for this all summer. But even before the bright educational space was fitted out, the teachers were already holding classes with the little ones. We managed to provide over 500 educational services for 130 children. And today, finally, what we had been waiting three months for has happened. Now we and our pupils have a fantastic space for learning and making dreams come true. Thank you to everyone who was part of this celebration,» commented Tetiana Rubets, Head of the Superheroes School in Boiarka.

This is the first educational centre of the state institution «Superheroes School» in Kyiv Oblast and already the third branch in hospitals across Ukraine to open during the war. Here the law of ergonomics, comfort and functionality prevails: at last, children undergoing treatment will be able to discover new things, be creative, keep up with their peers and continuously receive an education according to the school curriculum. And most importantly – to enjoy it and confidently move towards recovery.

You know when you understand that you are doing something worthwhile? When a six-year-old child is waiting outside the Superheroes School at half past nine, half an hour before the opening.

«Today, new classrooms opened in Boiarka. Now falling ill holds no fear for the little ones. They have cool, fun, understanding teachers with them. They will teach and inspire. The event left an incredible impression. My heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made these spaces possible: the designers, sponsors, members of parliament, educators, and the Superheroes School team! Enjoy your studies!» commented Natalia Moseichuk, presenter on 1+1 Ukraine, curator of the «Right to Education» project and, and the Chair of the Supervisory Board of the state institution «Superheroes School».

«I was struck by the fact that there can be a school in a hospital. It is incredible that the children who are here right now can study, play and at least briefly take their minds off their procedures. I want to thank everyone who put in the effort to open the Superheroes School,» shared Liudmyla Riaboshapchenko, mother of a young patient.

Guests of the Superheroes School were taken on a tour of the classrooms and invited to join an exciting biology lesson. They had the opportunity to speak with the superheroes and learn about their impressions of studying at the School.

«The child at the centre of attention – this is the value of the Superheroes School team, and it resonates with me one hundred percent. The individual approach to each child, the bright modern classrooms and the positivity-charged team do everything to ensure that the children’s time in hospital does not become a time of missed opportunities. On the contrary – they are able to gain the necessary knowledge and skills, interesting experiences and new friends,» noted Oksеn Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The ceremonial opening was attended by: Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine; Yevheniia Smirnova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science and founder of the Superheroes School; Tetiana Lomakina, Advisor – Presidential Commissioner for Barrier-Free Environment; Maksym Yarmystyi, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; Natalia Moseichuk, presenter, curator of the «Right to Education» project and, and the Chair of the Supervisory Board of the state institution «Superheroes School»; Serhii Koleboshyn, Member of Parliament of Ukraine and member of the Supervisory Board of the state institution «Superheroes School»; Zhanna Osypenko, Deputy Head of Kyiv Regional State Administration; Lesia Karnauh, Deputy Head of Kyiv Regional Military Administration; Yaroslav Dobrianskyi, Acting Head of Kyiv Regional Council; Violetta Dvornikova, Mental Health Coordinator for Kyiv Oblast; Oleksandr Zarubin, Head of Boiarka Consolidated Territorial Community Council; Kateryna Savinova, Director General of the Municipal Non-Commercial Enterprise «Kyiv Regional Children’s Hospital»; Oleksandr Sych, member of the the Supervisory Board of the state institution «Superheroes School»; and Olena Parfionova, Co-Head of the NGO «Parents SOS» and member of the Supervisory Board of the state institution «Superheroes School».

Operating in test mode, the Superheroes School at Kyiv Regional Children’s Hospital in the city of Boiarka has already provided 500 educational services for 130 children. On 1 September, the bell rang for two first-grade girls at the new School. One girl is undergoing treatment in the surgical department. For her and her mother, it was an incredible surprise that 1 September would not simply take place for Marharyta – she would also have the memory of ringing the very first bell. The second first-grade girl is undergoing treatment in the neurology department and, unfortunately, the doctors anticipate a lengthy rehabilitation. So the opening of the Superheroes School became a particularly positive moment for the child, as no one wants to fall behind their peers – especially in first grade.

Now that the renovation of the Superheroes School is complete and the space is fully equipped, the hospital teachers plan to triple the number of children reached and lessons delivered!

The Superheroes School – love from the very first lesson!
